This list is intended to serve the general community of academic enquirers into the "nature of evidence", and, in particular, those associated with the interdisciplinary research programme "Evidence, Inference and Enquiry" based at University College London and funded by the Leverhulme Trust and the ESRC.
Only registered subscribers can post messages or access the archives, but subscription is open to all.
The list is not moderated, but in cases of misuse posting privileges may be withdrawn.
CONTENT GUIDELINES
The principal intended uses for the list are:
1. Discussion of evidential issues that may be of interest across a range of disciplines.
2. More technical discussions of relevant within-discipline issues.
In case 2, please flag the nature of your contribution clearly, to avoid wasting the time of those to whom your message is unlikely to be of interest.
Users should restrict their postings to relevant matters, and are asked to exercise restraint by only posting comments that add new intellectual value. Positions taken should be accompanied by reasoned argument. Unsupported criticism and ad hominem remarks are unwelcome.
At the point that a discussion has clearly become of relevance to only a small number of members, please take it "off-list" (you can first send a list message inviting private expressions of interest). At a later stage, and with the agreement of all concerned, it may be appropriate to send the list an edited digest of such an off-list discussion.
TECHNICAL RESTRICTIONS
Any messages posted must be in plain text and without attachments. Otherwise they are likely to be garbled when archived.
If you use your mailer's "reply" function to respond to a message from the list, this should automatically continue the same "thread".
Please avoid quoting from earlier messages (which will be archived) any more than is absolutely essential.
Messages longer than 40KB, or those with blind carbon copies or any other added wrinkles, may be delayed for authorisation or rejected.
